Everyday Routines to Increase Engagement, Equity, and Rigor in the Math Classroom

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule, view media, leave feedback and see who's attending!

Join teachers from the Better Math Teaching Network who are using improvement science to increase student engagement, equity, and rigor in their math classrooms. You will see and experience how adding specific routines, conversation protocols, and purposefully designed rich tasks, helps students to solve, justify, and make connections in math class. These protocols are useful for all courses, ages, and levels of math confidence. This session encourages math educators to significantly minimize direct instruction, by emphasizing the importance of student centered sense making using concrete ideas that are also easily adaptable to other content areas.

Participants will experience and receive multiple protocols for engaging all students in mathematical sense making. An assortment of tasks ready for classroom use will also be provided. Participants will be introduced to the Better Math Teaching Network, a networked improvement community helping New England math teachers research and learn together.
